All sophomores & juniors will take the PSAT at Shawe on October 11th.  The state of Indiana pays for the test.  This is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for juniors.  Historically, students who take the PSAT score higher on the SAT, on average, than those who do not take the test.  Students are asked to share the Student Guide with their parents.  Practice tests in the guide and at www.satpractice.org.   Learn more at www.collegeboard.org/psat.


Purdue Polytechnic Columbus invites juniors & seniors to their upcoming College Visit Days on Nov. 3 or Feb. 23.  Learn more about school, financial aid, housing, and campus life.  Programs offer hands-on education in engineering and technology.  Register at www.purdue.edu/columbus.


IUPUI invites students to check out their School of Informatics and Computing and their Mobile Apps Competition.  Students with a bachelor degree in Informatics can get jobs in a variety of fields including Business, Art, Social Justice, Genomics, Healthcare, Design, Animation, Robotics, Law, Environmental Sustainability, Smart Cities, etc.  Average starting salary for 2016 graduates was $51,000.  www.iupui.edu


The WACE national co-op scholarship program will award 160 merit scholarships (totalling 4.2 million) to students who attend one of the partner universities.  Students must have at least a 3.5 GPA.  Co-op universities include Clarkson University, Drexel University,  Merrimack College, Rochester Institute of Technology, Oswego State University, University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati, University of Massachusetts Lowell & Wentworth Institute of Technology.  Application deadline is Feb. 15.  www.waceinc.org.


Franklin College had an admissions rep visit Shawe on Sept. 7th.  Franklin invites you to check out their website at www.franklincollege.edu  along with scholarship opportunities.  Top scholarship opportunities for students with 3.9 GPA or higher and SAT score of at least 1320 or ACT of 28 or higher.


Students & their parents interested in Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn or Stanford are invited to an information session about these schools held in Indianapolis on Oct. 3 at 7:00 PM.  RSVP at www.exploringcollegeoptions.org




Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is having information sessions in our area.  October 2 at 7:00 PM at the Ursuline Academy in Cincinnati.  Also Sept. 9 at 2:00 PM at Brebeuf Prep School in Indianapolis.  Visit www.mitadmissions.org/visit/travel.


The National College Fair is a free opportunity to connect to hundreds of colleges and universities in one location.  The NCF is coming to several cities in our area.  Indianapolis on Oct. 20 and Cincinnati on Oct. 22.  Register at www.nacacfairs.org/ncf.


The U.S. Service Academy Nomination Requirements for applying to West Point, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy or Merchant Marines are due Sept. 15th.  Criteria includes: Application for Nomination, Transcript, 3 Letter of Recommendation, Resume, Personal Essay, Photo, ACT/SAT scores.  See Mrs. Miller if you are interested in applying for nomination.


Students interested in Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Rice University, or the University of Chicago are invited to attend an information session in our area--Lexington, KY on Wednesday, Sept. 13th.  RSVP: www.expoloringeducationalexcellence.org.

Marian University (Indianapolis)  invites prospective students to their campus for fun, informative events.  Blue & Gold Days are Oct. 7, Oct. 28, Feb. 19, April 21.  Spring Preview Day is March 17 & Nursing Open House is April 6.  Reserve your spot at www.marian.edu/EventDaySignUp.


Explore Education Day at Ball State University (Muncie, IN) on Friday, Sept. 29 is for students interested in becoming teachers.  Learn about majors in elementary, early childhood, special education, and secondary (high school).  8:45 AM - 2:30 PM. Open to high school students.  See Mrs. Miller to register.
